To our Valued Members:
We are excited to announce that our proposed ALPS Federal Credit Union (ALPS) and Tongass Federal Credit Union (TFCU) merger has received final approval following our ALPS member vote which was completed on Saturday, January 21st. With 68.6% of the voting members voting ‘yes,’ the partnership is now a reality.
On February 1, 2023, our two credit unions will legally become one entity, operating under the TFCU name with TFCU President/CEO, Helen Mickel leading the credit union, and ALPS President & CEO, Sandi Riggs serving as Executive Vice President through our core computer conversion.
Our credit union's combined assets will be $233.4 million serving 13,163 members with 8 branches (Ketchikan, Sitka, Petersburg, Metlakatla, Klawock, Wrangell, Haines and Juneau) and 4 community microsites (Thorne Bay, Hydaburg, Kake, Hoonah) throughout Southeast Alaska.
Since beginning the merger process, 'Southeast Strong' has been our mantra with the goal of making both our credit unions better able to serve our members and communities. This will remain our goal moving forward.
“We are so pleased to be combining two credit unions with rich histories serving Southeast Alaska since the early 1960’s. Together we are truly stronger. Our expanded resources will continue to enable our members to achieve their financial goals through the friendly, affordable, and convenient services they have come to expect from their local community credit unions.” - Helen Mickel, TFCU President/CEO
“The partnership between ALPS and TFCU will allow us to serve our Southeast Alaska members and communities with a much higher level of service and volunteerism moving forward. Combining the talented staff at our two credit unions will improve our service to all members and solidify our commitment to providing financial services and support to the membership. We are excited to see what we can accomplish together as we move forward.“ - Sandi Riggs, ALPS President/CEO
From an ALPS member perspective, there will be minimal change at this time as you will continue to work with your local team for all your service needs. Both credit unions will continue to serve our respective members with ‘business as usual’ at our locations as we ramp up efforts to fully integrate ALPS members into the TFCU system by the end of July 2023.
We are committed to making this an easy transition for our members and staff and will continue to communicate progress with you throughout the process.
We also want to inform you that all members are invited to the Tongass FCU Annual Meeting on Thursday, February 23rd at 6pm.
We are all deeply grateful for our members and your loyalty and we are committed to serving you and our Southeast Alaska communities!
Thank you,
Sandi Riggs, Helen Mickel and the ALPS/TFCU Team!
